MLM Sponsoring: It Has Nothing To Do With Your Product…

When it comes down to MLM prospecting, recruiting and  sponsoring, here is a shocking truth that may rattle some of you: It has NOTHING to do with your product and everything to do with people… human psychology to be more exact.

Sponsoring people into your downline is not about having the best product. It is not about have the best compensation plan, and it is not about how cool your company is.

It also has nothing to with scripts or magical fancy words to ‘convince’ your prospect. And really you should not be doing any convincing in the first place.

Recruiting and sponsoring is about:

  1. Finding a person that you want to work with and deserve your time so they can build THEIR future.
  2. Finding a person who is looking for something more.
  3. Finding this person’s pain & struggles.
  4. Showing this person a solution (your offer) and how you can help.

So if it has nothing to do with your product or company, then what does it have to do with you may be asking.

The answer is YOU. Let me explain.

There are many great opportunities and companies out there. There are certainly many good products as well, so if a person had 3 people show him some information… which one would he choose? The answer is people join you and not companies.

So in order to do that, you have to offer them your own personal value above and beyond your opportunity.

MLM Sponsoring: It Has Everything To Do With You…

When you are on the phone with your prospect, you want to GENERATE attraction. What I mean by the is that you want your prospect to hunt you down and beg you to sponsor them! According to Mike Dillard, this is possible.

One thing I learned throughout my journey is that attraction is not a choice. It is actually a series of ‘switches’ that you may say that are automatically flipped in your brain on a biological level, when we interact with someone with higher value.

Read that last paragraph again.

By higher value, I mean more resources, knowledge, social alignments, etc.. and not human value. This attraction is NOT a choice as it is hardwired in brain for our survival. This is the exact principle why men and women are attracted to each other. It is also applied in business as well.

So the higher your value in your prospects eyes, the more attraction you can generate and the more inclined they would be to join you.

How do you generate attraction then? These are secrets I genuinely hate to be sharing with people because they are so powerful… but I am not going to hold back, so here goes:

MLM Sponsoring: How To Generate Attraction…

There are different ways how attraction is generated and I’ve seen those labelled as DHV (Demonstration of Higher Value) and DLV (Demonstration of Lower Value).

If you TRULY grasp and take to heart this concept I can promise the way you interact with people will change forever… for the better and not just in this business. You will have more influence, more power, more contacts to really help you achieve what you have set out to do.

SO PLEASE DO NOT MISUSE THESE POWERS!

If you demonstrate that you have equal or higher value than your prospect, then you can recruiting them, if not… then forget about it.

MLM Sponsoring: Examples of DHV:

  • Healthy & Fit
  • Non-needy
  • Positive
  • Confident
  • Unaffected by others (see one of my other posts about this)
  • And there is a whole bunch of other leadership ‘qualities’ to demonstrate this quality.

Here is an example that I have taken from Black Belt Recruiting” (I’ve shortened it) to demonstrate slightly what I am talking about:

So you call a prospect for the first time…

You: Hi x, this is John. I’m getting back to you because you requested information about…

Prospect: I may be interested what is all this?

You (DLV): ummmm, yeah… ah… our company is XYZ and we sell bla bla bla… would you like me to send you some info?

As opposed to a DHV:

You (DHV): That is a great question, but we are not there yet. Tell me more about you.. What are you doing for a living right now?

Hopefully, in this example you can see a little bit of what I am trying to teach you here. It is the DHV in this case that is going to increase your chance to sponsor someone and be ahead of the thousands of other people who have no clue what they are doing!

As you see, one reason people struggle in MLM sponsoring is simply because they do not use these fundamental principles of human psychology to help their prospect make the best decision for themselves and also help you build your business.

    Powerful post John! It is easy to fall in love with a product and assume that people are going to join your team the same way. The strongest teammates always join because they are attracted to my team and I.

    Great John, by asking questions you stay in control and find out what your prospects biggest struggle, or fear, may be. Then hopefully we can offer them a solution.

    Hmm interesting post, whilst I’m not in Network Marketing I do agree to some extent.

    For example I believe people buy from those they like and trust. But at the same time they have to have a problem that you’re going to solve for them.

    I would find it really hard promoting a product that I had no passion in just because someone I liked and trusted sold it to me so I’m not 100% convinced about your theory here…

      Hey Lilach, thanks for the discussion. The point is as long as you have a good and strong product, it is always about the connection with the person. In saying that, if you are promoting a product that is not popular, have no market or future demand or just REALLY does not fit your style… sure I agree with you. On the other hand, how much passionate can you get about nuts and bolts when there is a lot of people make money selling that? Just throwing it out there :)

        John, I had the privilege of observing a conversation between Michelle Alpha Pescosolido, Ray Higdon, and another Network Marketer on Facebook who were ‘discussing’ whether or not the product or the person were more important in recruiting, and, of course, Ray and Michelle said the person is more important – a DHV person, for sure. I do agree with Lilach (and the third person in Ray and Michelle’s discussion) that product is important, but it is only secondary to the way you posture yourself as a Leader.

    John,

    I have listened to Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring three times. (Lol) And I get what you are saying here. A DHV person postures him/herself to be in a position to win regardless of the outcome of just one prospecting call. For example, there is no expectation tied to the outcome because their belief system is strong enough to know there are enough people out there, you just have to find the right ones!

      100% correct, belief systems are such a powerful determinant in the results we have in life. Mike’s got some awesome products, and great that you listen to it 3 times. It takes that and sometimes even more for us to grasp new knowledge!
