Alright I’m back, fresh and energized. I dunno about you, but it seems to me that every short while, I have to pull back and take a break to gain my energy back.

I once read that this is a quality of my star sign… now I am not big on star signs and it could be a self fulfilling prophecy… so this remains to be seen!

In all cases, I wanted to share with you a little bit about my new direction and my next step in personal development.

I believe that this one critical idea can have a tremendous effect on your future, ESPECIALLY if you are a network marketer. So, pay attention.

Curing The “I Don’t Feel Like It” Syndrome…

In the time that I took off, I had the chance to reflect on my results and actions. Although there has been tremendous improvements over the last few months in many different areas, one thing jumped at me more than everything else, which I believe is holding me back from my full potential as I write this blog.

Now I share that with you, because I think you suffer from it as well. I call it the “I don’t feel like it” syndrome. What I have found is that sometime I lack the D-I-S-C-I-P-L-I-N-E to do what I said I would do, day in and day out.

So how does it happen? It is very silly. I would find myself say things like well, “I am not going to the gym today because it is overcast.” I like sunny weather.

Or “I am not going to make a phone call to that guy I talked to because I just don’t feel like it”. Or things like “I have not watched TV for 3 weeks, so I end watching a whole day of Mythbusters.”

The thing is, very rarely is there a TRUE excuse on why I would not do what I said I would, even though I know it is leading me to my dream life. Basically, unless your physical life is on the line, there is NO EXCUSE.

The biggest one that I hear and I fall into is the “I don’t feel like it”. We think that because we don’t feel like it, we can get away with it because it is a legitimate excuse. Well I am here to tell you that this is absolute BULL@#$%. Why?

“Because in reality you have the ability to choose where you spend your time (what you focus on every minute of every day), in turn changing your mental state (what you think about), which direclty affects how you feel (your emotional state)… and your body becomes that (physical changes in your body to reflect what you think about).”

Read that sentence again. Wow. We are VERY powerful. So when someone (or I tell myself) that “I don’t feel like it”, I just don’t buy it. So I either feel pitty for them because they have no idea how to self-discipline to have a better quality if life (they are a puppet of their mind and emotional states), or I just call them on it.

So What’s The Cure?

Feel the emotion, listen to what excuse your mind is coming up with… THEN DO IT ANYWAY. Be consistent and persistent. This works best if you have actually taken the time to write down exactly what you want from your life, business, relationships and everything else.

Because, when you just do it anyways, you know why you are doing it. There are a couple of other ways to deal with this ‘syndrome’ but I have found this to be the easiest to apply. So when you tell yourself you have to prospect for 20 people in a day and all these excuses come up and you just “don’t feel like it”… just do it anyway.

Try it for 30 days. Then 45, then…. until it becomes a habit and you naturally gravitate to higher level of success because you are working your plan that you have set.

    John, I was listening to a recording by Tony Robbins the other day where he was saying that habits take on average 21 days to set, either way, good or bad.

    Do something for 21 days consistently and you will form a habit. So you are absolutely correct when you say just do it for 30, 45 days etc, because at the end of it all, it will become habit and you will become successful. You would have no choice in the matter.

    haha! What an entertaining post John…at some point we’ve all suffered from this “sickness.” Kudos to you for being one of the few REAL enough to share your experience with others to show your transparency. The network marketing industry needs more leaders who aren’t afraid to share their true emotions.

    Hey John! Dude.. Great post bro! I know exactly what you mean about just not being in the mood to do something you know you HAVE to do. It’s easy to just bail on the mundane.. I was watching one of Ray Higdon’s webinars just the other night and he said that if you just keep your eyes on the big picture – the picture that’s BIGGER than you, then it will drive you through the small, everyday tasks that you’ve got to do to reach your goals..

    Hi John,

    I love your “Just do it” message! Yes, whether we feel like it or not!

    What I found helpful is to feel the emotion of getting the results (reaching the goals) and “THEN DO IT ANYWAY”. If the “WHY” is huge enough, there is no obstacle!

    Thank you for sharing the habit issue. Affirmation helps. Work schedule helps. Having a accountability buddy helps. BEst of all is to have a GREAT MENTOR who believe in you and keep you going no matter what!
