Black Belt Recruiting Objection Handling: “I Don’t Have The Time…”

In this post, I would like to give you a Black Belt Recruiting trick to handle a very common objection when you talk to your MLM prospects and that is “I don’t have the time” or “I am too busy” line.

This first thing to realize is if you are getting such an objection, it could be because you are not be doing your work right. You are not creating curiosity, genuine interest, or hitting them on their pain to catch their attention enough, or they may still not see how this could help them change their lives.

Sometimes people rather LIE than say the truth, because saying ‘no’ can hurt you and they will feel bad. Now this is so untrue on so many fundamental levels, because, you and ONLY you are responsible on how you feel and if you feel bad for saying ‘no’, you may wanna work on self-esteem issues. We’ll leave these topics to a different post.


So how do you deal with this objection? I’ve learned two ways one from Black Belt Recruiting by Mike Dillard and Mark Weiser. The other I got from a Ray Higdon, who I work with.

In Black Belt Recruiting, Mark shares this when someone throws this objection of not having enough time his way. Remember the assumption here is that this is a qualified prospect and WORTH YOUR TIME:

“We all have 24 hours in a day. If you’re ever going to have a chance to enjoy the kind of lifestyle you said you want, then you’re going to have to MAKE THE TIME.

We will work together and I’ll help you apply time management that will free up all the time you need. In fact, many people begin building their business with as little as 7 hours a week, let’s make it happen.


This is absolutely %100 true. They are going to have to make the time if they want a change. Notice also the posture on this objection and how he finishes with a call to action.

The other one I learned from Ray is something along those lines:

“You know, I’ve found that people will never have more time unless they have more money. Would you even be open to helping this time issue or is that something you plan on never solving?”

I don’t think I can even comment on this! It has such a powerful posture and challenging the prospect, a posture of a leader. And also it is true. If you have a lot of money, you can create the time for what you want.

This is all I wanted to share with you today. I highly recommend if you have not checked out Black Belt Recruiting to do so, as I know it will totally change your results if you are a serious networker. And I hope you are, otherwise just quit this industry because you are wasting your time. Go spend it with someone you love.

    Hey John,

    Thank you so much for sharing these Black Belt tips. I love the images you have chosen too! It is helpful that you have Mark’s teaching scripted here. It can certainly help the potential partner to seriously face the reality of having to make
    a decision. A decision to choose between staying status quo OR MAKING the time for change.

    Tim Sales’ encouraging words to existing distributors is that “We all have 24 hours a day, you just have to do it.” Of course we cannot say those words directly to the people who have not joined our organization yet. Ray’s reply is a powerful one! I have yet to implement this. Thanks, John.

    My experience tells me that the coming up of that question means that the potential partner has not seen enough value yet. I find telling story to be powerful. I would say something like,
    ” I can hear that you are concerned about if you have enough time to do this.
    Let me share Tommy’s story with you. Tommy started his business when…..
    (go on to tell Tommy’s story which is similar to my potential partner’s).
    How do you see yourself starting to earn that extra income to supplement
    your retirement (or whatever the person has shared with us earlier)?”

    Like Ray’s reply, the question serves as a wonderful tool to get the potential partner thinking his/her goals.

    John this is so awesome! I love your closing comment too, “otherwise just quit this industry because you are wasting your time. Go spend it with someone you love.” I think most people who get into this industry are doing it to have more time freedom and that means quitting a job they don’t want to do the rest of their life. So, most people who succeed in network marketing do it with very little time each week. What an inspiration!

    The thing that I like about Ray’s is that if you break down the wording, it challenges the prospect on a basic fundamental level and not necessarily if they want to join your business. It’s essentially asking “are you THAT CLOSED minded that you wouldn’t even be OPEN to the idea.” Once you get them saying “yes” then it’s easier to continue down the path.

    Great post John. Whilst I’m not in MLM and don’t recruit this excuse is used often in all manners of life. It’s very negative and we all need to make the time to do things we truly want to do.

    Everyone is given the same amount of time, it’s how we use it that makes the difference:)
